Bigger but not better.

I used the earlier editions while studying in medical school and for reference since. This new edition, while more voluminous, is unwieldy and confusing. The cute little icons that used to be so helpful are now just unclear, superfluous and often just silly. This is a good example of a publisher working too hard to make a text better, and ruining a good thing in the process. A real disappointment...

Used all of year two, great tool.

If you feel you need a book for year two of medical school pharmacology, this gets my recommendation. The format and layout lined up almost perfectly with my course work. Very easy to follow. (Ex they have most chapters broken up into drug groups like "anti-anginals" "antivirals" or "pharmacokinetics") Too in depth to solely be used for boards studying though.

Lives up to its promise

I was given a copy of this book by a friend, so I won't quibble about the price. If you're not familiar with the Cyrillic script or with any other Turkic language, Kazakh can be a tough language to crack. This book, though, does an excellent job of familiarizing you with the essentials of the grammar and the expressions you'll need most to communicate in the language. So I definitely think this book lives up to its promise.

can't get enough of this series

Its going spiffingly! Loving how things are moving along.

Slade and Trinity are a fab couple, now without their problems, I'm glad they are stronger than ever and new trying to work on planing their Wedding, Slade did a fantastic job of the proposal, loved how they all came together to make it special for Trinity.

You just know then planning is going to be car crash viewing, they just done't do anything easy do they?

Skye and Carson attempting to help them with the planning. You can detect tey are feeling a little envious but they will get their own HEA.

Slade is being really stubborn about not accepting money from Mike, and rightly so. I would always be thinking there would be an ulterior motive.

Credit where credit is die though, Slade does not want to come between Trinity and her dad, so admirable. When Mike told Trinity himself, she was going to be hurt and detest him. They have had a few disagreements in the past, but this one has really hurt her. I hope she calms down enough to see the two men in her life working it out. Hopefully in turn she will come around and accept and work through this situation.

Ryan and Janice really can't accept Pike, not that he has done anything wrong, they just have very strong feelings for Asher, which has now intensified having met Abby.

I was surprised with Silke's reaction to the news about Asher, and secretly hoping she will ditch Pike, even though Silke falls under Abby's spell; she and Asher talk and Silke is really angry about her feelings towards Asher. Silke is holding back her feelings for Pike but she has been honest and upfront with him about the whole situation. Anyone can see how much she loves Asher.

This is going to be a roller coaster in the coming installments, can't wait to see how it develops.

Loving it!

Ryan and Janice clearly don’t want Silkie with Pike, not because he isn’t good enough but simply because he isn’t Arsen. In a way I get how they feel but at the same time it isn’t very fair on Pike. However, I am team Arsen so I can’t really comment that much. I just hope that Ryan and Janice aren’t mean to Pike because I don’t think he deserves it and to be really honest its not his fault that Silkie and Arsen fell apart.

Slade and Trinity, please don’t let them get back together for the wrong reasons, they are meant to be together and I truly do believe that. I get the feeling things might not be plain sailing for these two but they’re meant to be so I’m sure they’ll get through it and get through it as husband and wife. My heart adores these guys and I get so emotionally involved so I guess I just have to have their happy ending, it would be proof true love does exist.

Clementine and Ward, I’ll admit I’m slowly falling in love with these two, they have a connection but at the same time they have quite a lot of issues. For such a new relationship, I’m not sure that they can survive it if I’m really honest, we will have to see what happens in the next few books. I think their relationship has a time limit and I’m not sure either of their hearts is going to survive at the same time.

Silkie sees Arsen and Abby!! Oh my days, my heart melted, please please please let me get their happy ending together, I would just absolutely love for that to happen, they need to. They really really need to find their happy ending with each other. I have hope that they will, can I just say I love Abby? I’m keeping her regardless of what happens between Silkie and Arsen. She’s epic!

Another one read in one day!!!

Run down ... (so i can continue the series :0)

Arsen finally asks for permission to see Silke but her dad tells him the truth about her seeing someone. :( broke my heart. They eventually see each other which you can tell they still have the flame together, but silke is broken after the way Arsen left things.

*****Ahhhhh**** Trinity and Slade. ..now this was beautifully written! The magical moment Slade proposed puts everything else to shame. Soo romantic, but then Trinity kicks into spoiled brat mode and starts with more requests from.him. Mike finally opens up and tells Trinity how crappy he has treated Slade and she now hates him

Reid and Jasmine is something I didn't see coming. Slade maned up and realized what a good guy Reid was dor bowing out and letting true love takes it course. Id love to see where thia goes...but from the looks of it Skye will have a hard time with this.

Clementine and Ward and on shaky grounds. They secretly love each other but she refuses to give up stripping and it annoys ward, who wouldn't!!

Skye and cayson are great other than the jasmine jealousy but she will need to get other it. He has proved how much he love Skye not sure what her issues are!!!

Great start to a series and author debut - Spoiler free review

I'm a big reader of many genres (YA, high fantasy, mystery, etc.) and this novel stands out to me. I enjoyed that the author, writing in YA, mentioned books and plays young adults and adults alike are like to have read. Literary references without pretension was a big highlight for me. It made me remember a number of required reading books I was given in High School. I also liked that Aleria was older (17-18 years old) and an AP student which allows Woods to write on the older YA side. Smart choice in my opinion. Makes for far more interesting internal dialogue than the average YA that can so often become "woe is me" and over dramatic. No hint of that here.
The Unintended did a good job of introducing the reader to Aleria's world and the world she ultimately finds herself. I also found the vampire mythology to be interesting and one of the more unique takes I've read (or seen). So often in literature and film, vampires are simply magic or the origins don't matter but Woods' take is more realistic and actually made me research on my own. Aleria asked the questions I was thinking. (Hope to hear more about it in the later books!!!)
Pacing was pretty great throughout. By Chapter 3, I cared about the Ali and was interested where the book would go. By Chapter 6, there is no way I could have put The Unintended down. Again, Aleria asks the questions everyone would ask in her situation which helps the world unfold at a steady, digestible pace. Not everything all at once, but one morsel at a time.
I liked that the ending gave resolution to enough of the questions so that this story felt complete but raised enough questions that you don't loose interest by the end of the novel and feel like you have all the answers. Felt like just the tip of the iceberg. I obviously had my theories and ideas but her foreshadowing is not so obvious that it slaps you in the face. Surprises revealed at the end of the novel really are surprises, but looking back they shed light on so much of the story. I'm normally very perceptive with what is going to happen in books (you read often enough and that's what happens) and I was actually surprised by where Woods took the ending. (Don't want to spoil anything but if you read the book, you'll know what I'm talking about)
My only critic would be that there is a lot more talking than action in some sections but overall I think that was necessary to set everything the Watcher world. The Unintended definitely feels like the wind up to a much larger story.
Can't wait to start The Nexus tonight!
(I already read the included bonus material (two different POV's, which I won't spoil!!) and Ch. 1 of Nexus and am extremely hopeful that the books will only get better from here)

Everyone Should Read The Unintended!

I'm a busy guy. I'm picky as well. Something's gotta be pretty great to be worth my time and keep my attention. I'm not a huge reader for this reason. I'm the farthest thing from a Twihard or someone who's typically into any teen romance type stories, or someone who jumps on trendy band wagons, but The Watcher Series is totally different from anything else I've come across.

Why I like The Unintended:
1. Characters are grounded in reality. They are well-thought out with real motivations for their actions. You become invested in their lives and need to know what happens next.
2. It's an easy read. You can motor through this guy cover to cover and onto the next one. I did.
3. Unexpected twists and turns!
4. New and unique take on the vampire genre.

A few reviews of this book are super negative and you know what, some of these negative reviews do bring up decent points. But they're mislead. The Unintended might not be your favorite book of all time. But it's still more than worth reading and here's why: Coming from someone who has read the three books in this trilogy as well as the prequel, and is now even reading the final two books of the series (which aren't out yet at the time this review is being written), I can earnestly say that although The Unintended isn't the greatest masterpiece ever written, Robin Woods skillfully sets the ground-work for what develops into a rich, believable and captivating world with its own lore, deep history and most of all, engaging characters that will stick with you long after you turn the final page.

The scope of this series is so great that it has something for everyone. You seriously will not believe the places this story goes (so far beyond the high school drama of The Unintended). People have pointed out that the series doesn't come out with guns blaring, huge explosions and car chases. But what proper epic doesn't have humble beginnings? Lord of the Rings doesn't start on Mount Doom. There has to be a buildup. A quaint beginning helps the reader appreciate where a story ends up. With every new novel of the Watcher Series, Robin Woods somehow manages to outdo the previous one in every way, all the while getting darker and more mature the further the story progresses. The stakes become higher, the scale becomes grander and the story becomes more and more intense and rewarding to read and be a part of. Pick up this book. And don't stop there. Go onto The Nexus. You won't regret it. Don’t miss out on this series!

Bravo for the Unintended!

The Unintended (2nd Edition): The Watcher Series: Book OneRobin Woods' first installment of The Watcher Series, The Unintended caught me by surprise. I don't typically gravitate toward vampire stories, but this tale captivated and held my attention.

I was drawn to the setting of the story since it takes place near my hometown in Northern California (Campbell, CA) and I was entertained by such declarations as the police department being so well-armed that they had a tank in their arsenal. Following the story from the protagonist's point of view kept me engage, since Ali is a very likeable lead. She's entering her senior year of high school and is grounded in her beliefs; her maturity helps to drive the story forward. The author makes references to various literature classics, including Shakespeare and weaves them to parallel the storyline. This works well to cement Ali's intelligence and likeability. The suspected antagonist is introduced early enough to keep the reader engaged, and the love interest slides in seamlessly.

Although some tedious details involving secondary characters could have been left out, they were minor. A few of the characters, such as Ali's school friends, were underdeveloped, and unfortunately, there were too many of them. This wasn't a major flaw in anyway, but more of a minor distraction. All was balanced by the primary arc of the story.

The battle scenes are choreographed in minute detail and I savored these action sequences since they were well written. The author creatively weaves in various subplots and plants enough twists to fuel the series. Ali is enlightened and yet, there are enough unanswered questions to keep her vulnerable and desired. She is not positioned as a heroine, making her more relatable with an alluring mystery surrounding her; the author skillfully opens the door for a lot of discovery in future installments.

I found The Unintended by Robin Woods to be engaging and a fun escape. I can now consider myself a vampire book reader and fan of this dynamic saga. I was pleased the author included a sampling for Book II of The Watcher Series, The Nexus. Bravo!

Exciting, entertaining and educational review of the development of nuclear power

This book, a gift from its author, was much more interesting than I expected it to be. It's a fascinating account of the many things that have gone wrong in our quest for development of atomic power. Written in an entertaining and often humorous style, it reveals what we have learned from our mistakes, only to find new mistakes to make. Unexpectedly exciting, but perhaps unavoidably including much technical detail, one is left with a great appreciation of the pioneers of nuclear energy. We are also left with a cautious optimism for the future of nuclear power. I was very surprised that much of this information is public knowledge. Also, one is left with a profound respect for neutrons.

An Amazing Feat! Gripping!

One would think that a book detailing the history of nuclear/atomic accidents, with lots of technical detail, would likely be of interest only to the most devoted nuclear/reactor physicists/engineers. Not so in this case! Certainly there are a lot technical descriptions of how reactors and other apparatus are made and how they operate, as well as play-by-play descriptions of how the various accidents occurred and their aftermaths. The descriptions are clear, most specialized terms are explained and the events leading to the various disasters are told in a most captivating way. But in my view, what makes this book so special is the author’s writing style, particularly his careful choice of words when describing the events that transpired: wittiness, tongue-in-cheek narratives, subtle sarcasm, etc. I often found myself laughing out loud at the way the author presents some of his material. Because of all of this, at least in part, I believe that this book can be enjoyed by a fairly broad readership.

One might expect that a tome like such as this one would contain a number of mistakes – editorial or otherwise. I must admit that I found very few. Other than a couple of misprints, i.e., on page 12, radium-266 should be radium 226 and on page 283, cesium-167 should be cesium-137, I did find one error of greater significance which may of interest to nit-pickers like me: footnote 82 at the bottom of page 99 is incorrect. In particular, the roentgen (R) and the rem are entirely different quantities. Very briefly, the roentgen applies only to X-ray and gamma-ray photons and is defined in terms of the ionization of air, i.e., the absolute value of the total charge of the ions of one sign produced per unit mass of air. Roentgens can be converted to rads (or rems) to human tissue using appropriate conversion factors whose values depend on the energy of the incident photons.

Overall, I believe that this book is a major contribution to the literature that describes various aspects of the nuclear field, which has often been perceived by the general public as being disturbing and obscure, in understandable, relatively jargon-free, language. It puts various nuclear accidents into perspective and makes the structure and operation of several nuclear devices more widely accessible.

Crash Course in Nuclear History & Dynamics

I totally loved this book, which sounds odd considering the topic; but it is so educational, so diligently researched, and well-written that it is actually entertaining. As a child of the Korean Conflict and Cold War, anything atomic has always been a hot topic for me. The author's research has been exceptionally deep and wide-ranging, and I feel as if I've just finished a year's university course in the topic; that's how much I've learned.

Oprah tiene una larga trayectoria en los medios de comunicaci�n de los Estados Unidos y para �ste libro reley� las columnas que escribi� para su revista "O" durante 14 a�os, columna que tiene el mismo t�tulo que el libro. Es un repaso de lecciones que le ha dado la vida, porque como ella dice en su introducci�n cuando en verdad sabes algo resiste el paso del tiempo o dicho de otra forma la verdad es eterna e inmutable.

About the Author
Vasileios Karyotis received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, in June 2004, his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, PA, USA, in August 2005 and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA, Greece, in June 2009. Since July 2009 he is with the Network Management and
Optimal Design (NETMODE) Lab of NTUA, Greece, where he is currently a senior researcher.
Dr. Karyotis was awarded a fellowship from the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering of the University of Pennsylvania (2004-2005) and one of two departmental fellowships for exceptional graduate students from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA (2007-2009).
His research interests span the areas of stochastic modeling and performance evaluation of communications networks, resource allocation, malware propagation and network science.
He has given various tutorial presentations in conferences, workshops and seminars, and he has been a TPC co-chair of the 2014 IEEE INFOCOM workshop on Dynamic Social Networks (DySON) and the 2015 IEEE ICC workshop on Dynamic Social Networks (DySON). He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 2004, and a member of the IEEE since 2003. He has participated in various R&D projects funded by the EC (FP6, FP7), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT).

MHR. Khouzani received a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2006. He subsequently joined the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) with a fellowship award. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Systems Engineering in 2011 with the best dissertation award among his graduation class. He has since held postdoctoral research positions with the Ohio State University (OSU), the University of Southern California (USC), Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), and most recently, Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL).
Dr. Khouzani's research is in the area of communication networks and cyber-security. He uses diverse analytical tools from areas such as probability, statistics, control theory, optimization, and decision and game theory, to contribute to the emerging field of the "science of security".
