The essays collected in this book provide an account of developments in the theory of environmental design in architecture during this period and illustrate the implications of theory for practice through a series of critical discussions of significant buildings. Central themes of the book are to show how environmental concerns have shaped the nature of buildings throughout history and, with the benefit of an historical perspective, to indicate how the new environmental priorities of the buildings of late industrial societies may be addressed.
